30th Birthday Bakes

18 cupcakes made for a colleague's son's 30th Birthday. They were going to be having a bit of a get-together over lunch and these were 'pudding' :)

I went for a star design as I thought it was slightly more masculine than flowers. I did do some flowers for the girls in the party too. Thought that the star design worked well so will probably use it again over the Christmas period.

Engagement Cupcakes!

I made these for my sister as a birthday pressie but as it was, she got engaged! The glitter hasn't shown up that well in these photos but you get the idea :)

Pink and Blue Flower Fondants

I made these to mark the start of the autumn term and to try out a new icing colour - a baby blue. I also wanted to use this gorgeous, vintage cake stand which a great friend gave me to display my cupcakes. Enjoy!

Pink Daisies Poured Fondant Cupcakes

I was really pleased with how these came out although the photos don't really do them justice!

Romantic Rose Cupcakes

I made these today for my beloved who arrives back from Australia after 2 months. Hope he likes them! I was hoping to flavour the buttercream with some rose essence but Lakeland didn't have any in stock alas. I used my new handmixer - a John Lewis one. It's fab!

Chocolate Buttercream Swirl Cupcakes

My first attempt at chocolate cupcakes and choclate buttercream. Alas! My handmixer packed up completely during the mixing of the buttercream so I didn't get it as light and fluffy as I'd hoped. Still pretty yummy though :)

Pink and Purple Buttercream Swirls

I made these very girly cupcakes yesterday. I've learned that contasting the colour of the buttercream with the colour of the sugar flowers works best as the pink doesn't really show up against the pink unless layered on top of a different colour.

My first Blog - Daisy cupcakes!

Hey there!
Welcome to my first ever blog!
This bank holiday weekend I've been busy with my most elaborate baking project to date. I love making cookies, cupcakes etc. but I fancied a bit of a challenge and I had time on my hands. I took the idea for these little cuties from Peggy Porschen's "Pretty Party Cakes" although the recipe for the cupcakes themselves was taken from the marvellous "hummingbird bakery cookbook". This was my first attempt at making anything using flower paste. It was also my first shot at making fondant icing. I had planned for the icing to be baby pink but it came out radioactive red!! Next time I will buy a food colouring that is specifically pink rather thank hoping to water down a red!
